You may find the flyer of the 2019 edition attached to this email.

Program Goals and Objectives:

The aim of the Human Rights in Action is to empower UNA Youth to take a leading role in upholding human rights in their communities. The Program includes two phases:

  • A training phase in Geneva (26 to 30 August 2019)
  • A project implementation phase that takes place once the participant is back in his/her country.

By the end of the training phase, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the international human rights system, its instruments and mechanisms;
  • Identify opportunities for civil society to interact with the UN human rights mechanisms;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic skills in project management (planning, monitoring, and evaluation);
  • Develop their own human rights awareness raising or education project to be implemented in their community.

Target Group: Registration is open to any UNA member, from 18 to 28 years old, who will represent his/her UNA in the program. As last year, the program is also open to few non-UNA participants subject to a highly selective process.

Fees: UNA members participation fees are at 350 USD for participants from OECD countries and 180 USD for non-OECD countries participants. Please note that this fee relates to the tuition only and does not cover travel costs, accommodation or meals during the training.

Accommodation and Logistics: WFUNA has pre-booked accommodation at the Geneva Youth Hostel at preferential prices. This can be paid by participants together with the tuition fee once they are selected and their visit to Geneva is confirmed. The cost for the 5 nights (25 – 30 August 2019) amounts to 280 USD and includes breakfast and a public transport card.

Available funding: A limited number of funding opportunities, covering air tickets and accommodation, are available for this training for youth originating from specific non-OECD countries UNAs.

Application: To apply please refer to the dedicated survey:

Participants need to fill in the form on the Survey Gizmo website first by clicking on the β€œApplication Form” link on the right). WFUNA will review the applications, receive endorsements from UNAs, make the final selection and sends acceptance letters (on a rolling basis).

IMPORTANT: All participants endorsed by a UNA commit to implement a Human Rights project in their country (preferably in collaboration with their UNAs) after the training in Geneva is finished. WFUNA will monitor these projects during the 6 month period of implementation and provide guidance and feedback all along.

The deadline for registration is the 28 June 2019.
